How did Histon Baptist Church improve the use of its buildings?

Histon Baptist Church had a vision to improve the use of its church buildings. What was fantastic is that from the start they were knew they had issues and were incredibly motivated to make those positive changes. Initially the team at Histon were looking to improve the use of the space within the church as the pews made the worship space rigid. New Zion Christian Fellowship has been meeting in a former Brethren chapel in Welwyn Garden City for many years, but had outgrown the space available. The interior was both restricted in terms of space and shabby in appearance. There was a room at the front of the building, divided from the main space but under-used. The entrance was cramped, and because of frosted glass in the doors it was difficult to know whether there was any life in the building, which had a defensive feel. The building sat on a small site with few options for expansion.  Find out more

All change at St Philip’s Church, Mill Road, Cambridge

St Philip’s Church stands in Romsey, an area of Cambridge built in the late 19th Century by the railway companies. The area has since changed, with more professionals moving in, but it has retained a distinct character. Mill Road itself is vibrant with a great selection of independent retailers; there was extensive opposition to the opening of a Tesco Express store. St Philips, built in 1900, stands in this rich context and maintains a strong community focus.  Find out more
